Real Estate Brokerages & Agents Must Become Media Companies.

 

 

The Real Estate industry has changed in the last decade and Brokers & Agents must learn to adapt and exploit the technology.

 

It all started back in the mid 90's when I was a Sr. Art Director for About.com (before I was an agent) the Dot Com Scene in NYC and California was booming and at that moment when that first agent photocopied a listing and emailed it to a client that very moment is when the Real Estate world changed.

Yes! and now we fast forward to 2016 and emails are just what they are e-mails, however, the Real Estate industry has to adapt and what I mean by that is from the agents all the way up the food chain to the broker/owner, technology and the ability to create media on the fly has changed the game of buying and selling real estate, with sites like Zillow, Trulia & Realtor .com buyers and sellers are more empowered more than they were ever before.

The modern day brokerage needs to be a "Media Company" as well, creating content, writing articles, submitting PR, putting in events and using Podcasts & Videos to market and promote their brand and every agent must be familiar with the new tools of the trade and the good news is that it's in your hand or pocket every day it's called a Cell Phone.

You now have the ability to take a listing, take photos and write a blog about the home and then share it to all your social networks even before you put it on the MLS but that is not enough you need to saturate your local market and become the go-to agent in that community and new media social media emerging media whatever you want to call it is a must. For anyone just becoming and agent and wants to dive into this business you must adapt to the technology here are a couple of things, you can start with.

 

 If I were a new agent the first thing I would do is this:

  1. Setup a website with the ability to blog and also have an IDX connections
  2. Setup your Social Media Accounts: Facebook, Twitter, GOOGLE+. Instagram
  3. Setup your YouTube Channel
  4. Produce a podcast (optional)

And now once you have that all setup focus locally and start creating "Hyper Local" content

at least 2 times per week (I prefer daily) and once you write that blog, take that video you can use it across your different channels learn how to use search engines and move forward with it. I tell my agents to do something at least once a day to move your goal forward and the best thing is Realty Executives Prime Agent Suite offers up a lot of this technology for our Executives.
