On April 29, 2025, the Forest Lake YMCA in Minnesota buzzed with activity as over 60 vendors, 400 attendees, and multiple food trucks gathered for the highly anticipated Forest Lake Senior Seminar & Expo. The event, which featured a variety of vendors from home maintenance to professional organizers, downsizing companies, moving companies, in-home care services, senior living communities, and more, was a resounding success thanks to the meticulous planning and unwavering dedication of Mary Beck, Realtor® with Realty Executives Top Results.
A Passion for Serving Seniors
Mary Beck’s journey in real estate began in 2003, and over the years, she has cultivated a niche in assisting seniors navigate the complexities of buying, selling, and transitioning into new living spaces and environments.
In late 2018, Mary attended “Moving in the Right Direction,” a webinar hosted by Bruce Nemovitz of Bruce Allen Real Estate Consultants. The idea of building a senior-based real estate business piqued her interest, and she contacted Nemovitz to learn more.
Shortly thereafter, Mary received her Senior Real Estate Specialist Certification (SRES) in early 2019 and began contacting local senior communities to present “Moving in the Right Direction” to help others better understand the complex needs of senior movers. These presentations were well-received and offered useful information to seniors and those collaborating with seniors.
“I love helping my clients move forward into the next stage of their living situation, whatever form that takes- be it downsizing, moving into a senior community, finding a multi-generational home, or something else,” Mary shares. “Presenting Moving in the Right Direction has helped the community better understand the specific needs of senior movers, and the resources needed to make the process as stress-free as possible. I have referral partners for downsizing, organizing, packing, moving, repairs, and more. I want these families to have the right type of support they need at every stage of the transition.”
Making Meaningful Connections
After a brief hiatus due to COVID, Mary was again ready to immerse herself in the local senior community and provide guidance with in-person events.
In March 2023, Mary partnered with the Forest Lake Senior Center for a small expo. Due to the size of the hall, the number of vendors and attendees was limited. However, the success of the expo led to a fortuitous invite to organize a panel discussion at the local YMCA.
She quickly realized that the Forest Lake YMCA was a gathering place for the community’s senior citizens and would be a fantastic venue for future expos. It was the start of a strong relationship between Mary and the YMCA, both parties united in the goal of giving back to the community.
The Forest Lake Senior Seminar & Expo: A Community Triumph
The 2025 Forest Lake Senior Seminar & Expo was more than just an event; it was a testament to Mary’s dedication to community engagement and senior advocacy. The expo provided a platform for seniors to connect with a variety of resources, from home health services to real estate advice, all under one roof. Mary’s role in orchestrating this sold-out event highlights her ability to bring together diverse stakeholders for the benefit of the community.
“In two short years the attendance has nearly doubled. It’s clear that seniors in my community are seeking information, and this is an ideal way to bring everyone together,” said Mary. “This year we added a health screening room for blood pressure checks, vaccines, and hearing, memory, and balance screening. We even had a special visit from Holly the alpaca, an emotional support animal that frequents senior communities. I want to continue to bring exciting surprises, the latest information, and new services to future expos!”
