(Published on - 6/4/2020 3:55:27 PM)

Who else loves a good day trip? It feels like you got away, but you did not have to do much driving and you did it all in one day! With COVID 19 still being a barrier for people traveling, this the perfect idea to just get away and still feel like you went on a little vacation. There are several places you can go to within just 2 hours of the Orlando area. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Tampa, Florida (84 miles, about 1 hour, 21 minutes from Orlando)

In Tampa, you will find ZooTampa at Lowry Park. It has more than 1,300 animals and famous for having one of the most beautiful, tropical zoological settings in the world! Another great thing you will find in Tampa is the Salvador Dali Museum. The Dalí Museum celebrates the life and work of Salvador Dalí. It features works from the artist’s entire career. The collection includes over 2,400 works from every moment and in every medium of his artistic activity. You will also find tour guides to provide information and insight on the garden, architecture, statues, and paintings.

  1. Clearwater, Florida (106 miles, about 1 hour, 56 minutes from Orlando)

Situated just past Tampa on Florida’s West Coast, Clearwater is an exciting day trip destination. You will find Clearwater Beach, which is known for its soft, white sand, which draws visitors year-round for jet-skiing, parasailing, and stand-up paddle boarding. Another thing you will find in Clearwater is the Florida Botanical Gardens. Bring the family and enjoy a day learning and enjoying beautiful gardens filled with flora, fauna, and natural resources in motivational surroundings that promote environmentally friendly techniques. Best of all, admission is free!

  1. Augustine (107 miles, about 1 hour, 50 minutes from Orlando)

Did you know St. Augustine, Florida is the oldest city in America? It was founded in 1565 by Spanish Explorers. This city is full of history and anyone coming to St. Augustine will learn about its notable citizens, historical events, and buildings. One major place to keep on your radar when visiting is the St. Augustine History Museum. The St. Augustine History Museum offers a display of historical artifacts and private collections from over 400 years of Florida history, including times of Native Americans, Spanish Galleons, pirates, and the Revolutionary War.

  1. Daytona Beach, Florida (55 miles, about 1 hour from Orlando)

If you are a Nascar fan, then Daytona is the place for you. Home to the iconic Daytona International Speedway, this beachside town hosts the Daytona 500 NASCAR race each February. Speaking of beachside, Daytona is home to the one and only Daytona Beach as well as Daytona Lagoon, Daytona Beach’s Premier Water Park and Family Entertainment Center.

When you sit and think to yourself, “I am so bored and have nothing to do with my day,” here are some great ideas to consider. A day trip to one of these places is the equivalent to spending the day out in your local town probably shopping and getting some lunch; why not spend it somewhere different? There is plenty to do in Orlando and we are the first ones to tell you that, but if you are an Orlando native and simply just want to get out of town for the day to change scenery, then these places will do it. So, where are we headed to first?
