(Published on - 6/24/2020 5:34:46 PM)

Mills 50 is a Main Street America Accredited program. The district’s name is derived from its primary, intersecting thoroughfares: Mills Avenue and State Road 50. As a Main Street America Accredited program, Mills 50 is a recognized leading program among a national network of more than 1200 neighborhoods/communities. Mills 50 is a centrally located, culturally diverse, electric, urban district. Made up of local business owners and residents, its mission is to foster Orlando’s most diverse neighborhood. It is also one of Orlando’s oldest neighborhoods! You will not go hungry or bored in the Mills District, trust us. It is a thriving community filled with culture and creativity and it is embraced every day.

Food: Mills 50 District is known for its unique choices of cuisines, particularly eastern cuisines. You will find Hawkers Asian Street Fare, Mamak Asian Street Food, Poke Hana, Pop Thai, and many more. Fun fact about Hawkers is that it basically means street vendors, who depend on locally grown ingredients to create dishes sold from mobile carts and stands. “The most successful recipes, typically passed from one generation to the next, bring flocks of eager patrons. If you have ever traveled to Asia, you will know that the best foods are served by local hawkers.” Makes sense though, right? Some of the best dishes are ones from food trucks. It is always the most unexpected spots that have the best food!

Want to drink like you are in Asia? You can head to Tori Tori, a Japanese pub. Mills is very Asian infused, and all incredibly unique cuisine options, ones you will not find anywhere else. Straying away from Asian Fusion, Mills is filled with other must go to places of all kinds. One of the best is Santiago’s Bodega, a tapas restaurant. Tapas is basically bite sized plates, and the owner’s vision was to give guests the opportunity to taste a wide variety of dishes. Then, can find contemporary Mexican cuisine at Black Rooster Taqueria.

Art and Culture: Mills is the place to be if you want to be surrounded by art. At the far noth end of Mills, Loch Haven Cultural Park features some of the best spots to be if you are an art aficionado. It includes Orlando Museum of Art, Mennello Museum of American Art, Orlando Repertory Theatre, Orlando Shakespeare Theater, and headquarters of Orlando Ballet, which performs exclusively at the Dr. Philips Center for Performing Arts. Not to mention the Orlando Science Center, which is a great STEM focused attraction that is perfect for families.
