What are the benefits of owning a house in contrast to renting a house? Although there are many benefits to owning a house, I have highlighted a few that I believe are crucial. One of the first benefits of owning a house is Equity. When you own a house, you are building equity. You can't build equity in an apartment or rental property. Another great benefit of owning a house is the Tax Deduction. Your rent payment is not tax deductible but the interest portion of your mortgage payment could be tax dedtuctible (Consult your tax advisor for more information). A Fixed Payment is another great benefit of owning your home. Your rent almost always increases when your lease is renewed. With a fixed rate mortgage, the principal and interest payments never go up. A sense of Pride is also a very vital benefit of owning a home. An apartment can feel like it is just a place to stay. Owning your own home gives you pride of ownership. Privacy is another important benefit of owning your own home. In an apartment, you share the walls, ceilings, and in some cases the floor with your neighbors. In a single family home, you have privacy.
