Here are five trails in and near Temecula to explore:
Temecula Creek Trail - Generally considered an easy hike, the Temecula Creek trail consists of a 1.1-mile out-and-back route that takes about 21 minutes to complete, according to AllTrails. This trail, which is open year-round is popular for birding, dog-walking, hiking and running.
Santa Margarita River Trail - This 5.2-mile voyage in the Santa Margarita County Preserve is ranked "moderate." It's a 23-minute drive from Temecula.
Harveston Lake Loop - Here's another easy 0.8-mile loop near Temecula. It's popular for running, road biking and birding.
Diamond Valley Lake Wildflower Trail - This "easy" 2.1-mile loop trail is over in Hemet, but it is a very popular wildflower destination that is best visited in February through May. Dogs are not allowed.
Monserate Mountain Trail Loop - Near Fallbrook, this trail is for experienced hikers as it has a 1,430-foot elevation gain and takes about three hours to complete 4.5 miles. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed.
