Annual events feature fireworks celebrating New Year's Eve, the Fourth of July, the Tempe Ironman Competition, the New Times Marathon and the Pat Tillman Run, among others. The Mill Avenue bridge serves as ground zero of Arizona State University's main campus. Tempe is 40 square miles, bordered by Old Town Scottsdale, the 202 freeway, Phoenix and Mesa and the East Valley. Just 15 minutes from Sky Harbor International Airport, it is home to Arizona State University, the University of Phoenix, the Maricopa County Community College District, the nation’s largest, and many more. The population of Tempe is approximately 182,000.
