We are blessed to have family and friends that have found a home in various counties throughout the state. Ozaukee County is one where our parents have childhood memories and we can share in creating our own by visiting the towns that continue to change with time.
Port Washington is always a favorite with the Farmers Market happening on Saturdays. This allows us time to spend together while taking a walk along Lake Michigan or visiting downtown shops. If you want to try sport fishing, Port Washington harbor may be the place to travel. I've never tried it myself, but heard it is an experience.
If you enjoy walking around a downtown full of shops and food venues, historic downtown Cedarburg is another location to visit. Strawberry Festival is always one of my favorites that typically takes place at the end of June. If you enjoy wine, our very own Cedar Creek Winery is here too. Wine & Harvest Festival takes place in September featuring local artists and events scheduled for all ages. While in Cedarburg, make sure to stop and see Covered Bridge County Park which is one of the last covered bridges in Wisconsin.
A place close to our heart is Buechler Farms which is owned and operated by our cousins family. I wish my dad was still around to be able to witness what Brian and Irene have done; he would have loved seeing the rodeo with his love of horses. If you are having a wedding, this is one location you may want to consider. Plans are also being made to host a circus event in 2020.
If camping or enjoying Lake Michigan is something of interest, Harrington Beach State Park is the place to be. There is even a dog beach available when taking our pups for a walk! This campsite has always been a location that is far enough away but still close to our home.
Your home will become so much more when enjoying the community and all that our surrounding areas offer. My best days are those when striking up a conversation with someone in a store or learning more about a community while walking around in a local downtown area.
