Each year, Realty Executives International recognizes the leading Executives across our network through our annual awards program. As we celebrate 50 years of real estate excellence in 2015, we’re highlighting the achievements of some of our most successful agents (we call them Executives) sharing important keys to their incredible productivity in real estate, and honoring the many ways they make a difference in the lives of their clients.
Real Estate Agent Lauren Ellington of Realty Executives Phoenix made the switch from a corporate career to real estate more than a decade ago when she made the leap from her home state of Texas to Phoenix, Arizona. Now, Lauren is sharing a little bit about how she’s learning life/work balance, why her broker answers her calls on his motorcycle and why NBA players love her style.

How many years have you been in the real estate industry? How many years with Realty Executives?
12 years in real estate and 12 years with Realty Executives
Did you have an “aha” moment in life – an experience that made it clear to you that real estate was the right career path for you?
Right out of college I worked in the corporate world. I wanted a career that didn’t have a cap on how much you could earn. I love people, houses, design and business so real estate was the perfect fit!
What led you to Realty Executives?
I am originally from Austin, Texas so I didn’t have many family or friends here in Arizona that could refer me business. So I started on a team within Realty Executives that provided me leads to start and build my business. After one year on the team I decided to leave and go on my own, but stayed with the company because I loved the brand and what it had to offer agents (like 100% commission).
What are your top lead generation sources?
It’s about 80% referral, 20% sign calls and open houses.
How has your brokerage supported your success in 2014?
Gerry Russell is the absolute best broker and answers my phone calls 24/7. Even when he is vacationing with his motorcycle he takes my calls.
As an award-winning real estate professional, you’ve obviously had to work hard to achieve success. What keeps you coming back to your work in real estate, day after day and year after year?
I love my job! I love my clients, the challenge and that each deal is different.
How are you guiding clients through the challenges in your area?
You need to price your house right in order to sell. My buyers need to be patient in order to find the “perfect home.” I never want them to settle and then have buyer’s remorse.
What is the best compliment you’ve ever received from a client?
My clients have said the attention, communication and concern I give them makes them feel as if they are my only client when really I am working with multiple buyers, sellers and escrows.
What differentiates you from your competition?
I answer my phone every time it rings all throughout the day (and even during the middle of the night). I plan vacations where I still have phone, Internet and computer access. I am a true workaholic and that never stops!
Is a life/work balance something you have achieved in your career? How do you manage the demands of working in real estate?
Prior to having kids I did not have a life/work balance. Now that I have a 1-year-old and 3-year-old, I definitely make more of a conscious effort to have regular family time.
Do you have a favorite testimonial from a past client?
NBA player Raja Bell said: “Lauren really understood the crazy schedule of playing in the NBA and taking care of a new baby. So it was great how smooth and easy she made the whole home buying process. She worked diligently to find the perfect place for us—a home we’d love living in and also a smart investment. She always put our best interests first, and her negotiating skills were fantastic. Her goal was to get the best deal, not the biggest commission.”
How do you give back to the community you serve?
I support many charities throughout the valley. I am on the Leadership Committee for Phoenix Children’s Hospital, which is very close to my heart. I am also a strong Christian and support Christian Children’s Fund and Mission to the World.
