Easy Updates!

(Published on - 2/26/2016 6:27:10 PM)

Whether you are planning to sell your home, or simply want to add some easy updates for your own enjoyment, we've got some FABULOUS ideas for you! There are many tried-and-true ways to make any home more inviting on a budget! Could any of these options work for you? Have some fun with it and get creative! Read more for our TOP recommendations that we give to our sellers!

Front Door Makeover: An easy thing to do is remove the exterior glass or screen door so that the front door stands out as the focal point. Next, choose a nice color that highlights or accents the exterior colors or style of the home! Other easy recommendations include changing the outdoor light fixtures and door hardware. A nice front door mat & potted plants can also help create a more welcoming entrance. See this before and after!Front Door

Kitchen Cabinet Update: Sometimes just throwing a coat of paint over dated oak kitchen cabinets can make a WORLD of difference! Other recommendations include changing out the hinges and hardware for a more polished look. Check this out!

Interior Door Update: You don't need to buy all new doors to achieve an updated look! Try purchasing some inexpensive trim and creating your own panneled doors! I also would recommend changing out the door knobs/hardware or spray painting them!

Garage Door Remodel: Garage doors can really make-or-break a home's curb appeal! This is one of the best bang-for-your-buck updates a home owner can make! You can do this simply by painting and adding some simple coach-house hardware DYI style, or completely replace the doors altogether. Added visual interest goes a long way!

See how these turned out below!

Frame Bathroom Mirrors: A simple and cheap update a home owner can do is to frame a builder-grade bathroom mirror with trim (black or white are most common) to give it a higher-end look. Looks good right?! Want to complete the look? Update the light fixture above the mirror! Quick, Simple, Cheap, why not?!

Faucet Facelift: Stop in to a home improvement store (Home Depot, Lowe's, Menards, etc.) and pick out some modern sink faucets! This can help to make outdated counters and vanities look fresh and new without breaking the bank! Don't want to BUY anything new? Spray paint the faucet!!

Paint the Bathroom Vanity: You can rescue an outdated vanity quickly and easily! Simply paint the vanity and change out the hardware! Typically people keep it simple with paint colors and go with black or white. This is very effective!

That LOFT Look!

(Published on - 1/25/2016 11:03:58 PM)

Chicago is known for its lofty living spaces. Over the years, warehouse loft spaces have been converted into drop-dead gorgeous residential residences. This trend originally became popular in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City, when young artists began inhabiting the converted warehouse spaces because it was inexpensive. Today, what was once associated with old industrial warehouses and manufacturing plants, represent some of the real estate world's hottest urban properties for young professionals. Since loft-living has become trendy in bustling cities around the nation, it has helped to revitalize older neighborhoods, and bring life back to vintage, long forgotten building. Loft spaces are identified by their high ceilings, exposed brick, duct-work, and beams, hardwood floors, track lighting, metalic surfaces, wide open space with lots of light, and in the traditional definition---the space was formerly used for another purpose, and converted into a living space. In Chicago, there are many neighborhoods that are notorious for this type of living: Printer's Row, West Loop, Wicker Park, Logan Square, and Bucktown to name just a few.

Not all of us will be fortunate enough to be a chic city-living Chicago Loft owner, but we CAN incorporate many loft elements into our homes that add visual interest with a contemporary feel.
