How to Keep You and Your Home SAFE this Holiday Season

We all remember the infamous "Wet Bandits" from the movie Home Alone who waited for people to leave over the holidays before robbing their houses.  While this is not a likely scenario, it can happen.  According to the FBI, December is a peak month for home robberies.

In addition to home security, it can be easy to overlook the necessary safety precautions that come with setting up a Christmas Tree, lights, and decorations. A few years ago, The National Fire Protection Association came out with some troubling stats:

  • Electrical distribution or lighting equipment was involved in 43% of home Christmas tree fires.
  • Two of every five (40%) home Christmas tree fires started in the living room, family room, or den.  Three-quarters of the fatalities and two-thirds of the associated injuries resulted from fires started in this area.
  • The top three days for home candle fires are Christmas, New Year’s Day and New Year's Eve.
